3 High Converting Title Templates You Can Use Today

web-design-headline-templateWhen writing a blog post or article its important to have a title that catches your viewers interest and makes them want to continue on reading the rest of the post.

Statistics show that 8 out of 10 people will read the title of an article, but only 2 out of 10 will read the rest of the article.

This statistic shows just how much power your title has.

So in essence your title has 2 jobs;

  1. Capture attention to the casual skimmer.
  2. Be interesting enough to entice the reader to continue on reading.web-design-converting-headlines

If you google “how to write a great title” or something similar, I am sure you will get hundreds or thousands of articles that go into great depth on how to craft the perfect headline to your blog post (or article) but if you’re anything like me – just a small business guy trying to run a business and don’t have a lot of time to research and just want a fill in the blanks approach, I’ve gathered up some great converting titles.

Here are some templates you can use right now..

#1. How to __accomplish something___ in a ___period of time___.

Example:  How to create the perfect web design in less than a week.

#2. The Guaranteed method for avoiding _________.

Example: The Guaranteed method for avoiding paying more than you should for a refrigerator.

#3. 10 Little known ways to __accomplish something___

Example: 10 Little known ways to get promoted by your local media.

#4. The Unbelievably easy way to __________.

Example: The Unbelievably easy way to Block you from your Google Analytics

Creating your blog posts can be hard work. You have to come up with a good article idea, then the content for it, a great title then you have to market it once you’ve published it. It can be overwhelming – especially – for non-writers like myself. But with a few tips on your headline you’ll be crafting that perfect blog post in less time with more visitors reading beyond that title.

Brantford Ontario, Web Design

Web Design in Brantford – Where is that again?

I have been writing lots of “How to..” type of articles for a few years now. Ranging from web design to internet marketing to social media. I hope people find them helpful and useful. But in this article I thought I would take a little different slant.

A recent conversation with a client had me thinking – I often work with people and business that are not located in the city I live in and sometimes I end up describing where it is. I live in Brantford Ontario Canada. The population is probably just shy of 100,000 these days – which for me is just about perfect. Not too small not too big. We are located about an hour west of Toronto – most people go “ahh…ok” when I make that reference.south western ontario

We are surrounded by some great cities and towns – Hamilton, Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo, Guelph, St.George, Paris Ontario, Woodstock etc. We have a river (the Grand River) that meanders through the city and we have some great hiking and biking trails.

We even have a tourism center located just off the 403. They are helpful and cheery folks that can help you find some great activities and great Brantford Hotels.

While the majority of my webdesign clients are located in the Southern Ontario and Brantford area I am lucky enough to work in a industry that (thanks to tools like Skype/Google hangouts) is pretty much location independent. Web design with proper/ongoing communication with clients can be accomplished almost anywhere. Having said that – if I were given the choice between a far away client and close by client – I do enjoy face to face interactions with clients. There is just some things you can’t get over email/skype.

If you wanted to read up more about Brantford Ontario feel free to check out these links:

And of course if you are in need of a web designer, (whether you are located in Brantford or not) feel free to contact me to chat about your project.

The Unbelievably Easy Way To Block You From Your Google Analytics

Easy to Block Yourself From Analytics
You use Google Analytics to track your visitors, where they come from and what pages they visit.
But you are pretty active on your own website, making updates, adding content, writing posts etc.

When you check you Google Analytics you don’t want your activity to be tracked because it skews the real story of how your website stats are presented. So what do you do?

In this article I’m going to show you a way to exclude yourself from being counted from Google Analytics in a super easy way that will take you all of about 60 seconds to implement.

You can google “how to exclude yourself” and there are lots of results to choose from. They range from creating complicated filters, to installing plug-ins etc.
For those that are not so techie and don’t have the time to ‘figure it out’, I have a super easy way for you to do it.

However there is one caveat – you need to use Googles Chrome browser for it to work.

There are things called ‘extensions’ available for Chrome browser users. Extensions are little programs that are ‘add-ons’ to Chrome that can enhance what chrome does in addition to letting you view websites.

Step 1.Block-Yourself-From-Google-Analytics-1

Visit https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions

Step 2.
Enter in the search field Block Yourself from Analytics

Step 3.
Click +ADD TO CHROME button

Step 4.
Visit your own website.Block-Yourself-from-Analytics

Step 5.In the top right hand corner click Block Yourself from Analytics.

Step 6.blocked-symbol-analytics
If you refresh your browser the icon should show a red circle indicator that shows this website is now being blocked from your analytics.

There you have it. Easy peasy. Now you can sit back and relax knowing your visits to your own website are not skewing your results.

Why Blogging Is Important For Business

Why-Blogging-For-Business-Is-ImportantUnfortunately many people have a two step approach when it comes to blogging.

Step 1 – Write a blog post.

Step 2 – Ring in Sale$

If you’ve been taking the above approach you’re probably disappointed at your results so far and are likely considering quitting this whole blogging idea.
You need to look at the purpose of blogging in a whole new way. There are two main purposes to blogging.

1. To establish authority
2. To capture drive by visitors

Lets talk more about each:

Establishing Authority

By writing an article on a topic/subject and then posting it for the world to see you are essentially doing two things. You are establishing yourself as an authority on that subject to your potential customers and secondly you are establishing yourself as an authority to search engines like Google/Bing/Yahoo etc.

The more articles you produce – over time – the more credible you become and people start seeing you as an authority on Subject X. Also at the same time search engines like Google have been indexing your blog posts. Google will start to associate you with your keywords (content) and with each post your search rankings edge up a little more giving your website better ranking.

Capture Drive-by Visitors

Once your content starts getting attention of visitors and drive-by’ers the next thing you want to do is develop a way to capture visitors email addresses. Notice I didn’t say try to SELL them something.

Let’s say someone has read a few of your posts and got some good advice and value out of them. Wouldn’t it be logical that they might want to read more? So why not offer them exactly that? Have a call to action that says ‘Sign up to get exclusive articles each month on how to …XXX’, or ‘Download our report on..XXX’. Now we have an actual name and/or email address that we can follow up with.

People that have signed up to your service are about twice as likely to buy something from you than someone that hasn’t. I don’t know about you but if I can sell something twice as easy I’ll take that any day.

This technique isn’t limited to e-newsletters, or reports. You could offer a webinar, a manual on how to maintain your XXX, or even invite them to a live in person workshop/seminar you are holding.

Another question I’m often asked is ‘how long do I have to do this to see results?’. I wish I could give you a definitive answer like X days/weeks unfortunately each industry and its audience is unique and what might work a certain way for one might not work as well for another. You might need to do a little more research before getting started or you could test approaches and see which one works best.

The keys to successful blogging are:
1. Decide what results you want out of it in the first place (define a goal)
2. Brainstorm your list of content to produce
3. Always do your best to deliver value where/when you can.
4. Work on converting the drive by visitor into a sign-up fan.
5. Have a plan for following up on your subscriber list.
6. Rinse and repeat.

I should also mention that one of the most important elements of blogging is your headline. If you headline wont capture interest, then no matter how great your article is – no one will be reading it. Here are some headlines you can use to help get you started.

What about you? Do you have any tips to help other folks get results with their blogging? Please leave a comment below.
