You want visitors to your website to be impressed, interested and engaging. But we have all visited websites that annoy, disappoint, and frustrate you.
A poor user experience can have the opposite effect the website owner wants, low search engine ranking, high abandonment rates, low conversion rates, low interaction and even negative comments could be shared about the website on social media.
In the interest of frustrated website users everywhere here is our list of 6 common things people hate about websites.
1. Videos or Sounds That Play Immediately When the Page Loads.
I think we have all been blasted by an annoying website at sometime or another. Quickly fumbling for the mute or volume knob. Some websites compound the problem with playing a video or sound with no controls evident. i.e. pause, stop etc. Let the user decide on whether or not to watch your videos or play that sound clip.
2. Only Having A Contact Us Form.
We are not saying you shouldn’t have a contact us form on your website. But is that the only method of communication you offer. Once again it is helpful to give your visitor options on how to contact you. Some people prefer to use the phone over email.
3. Lack of Social Sharing.
Hopefully you have some interesting content on your website. In the case of a blog page if you went to all the trouble of creating new and unique article don’t you want others to pass on that great advice? Social sharing increases visibility, traffic and more lead generation opportunities. (tweet this)
4. Slow loading.
Do we really need to expand further on this one? Peoples attention spans and patience are becoming shorter and shorter all the time. Most won’t wait and click off your website before it fully loads if it takes more than a few seconds.
5. Broken Links.
This is just basic good housekeeping. Ensure your links are in good working order.
6. Outdated Information.
(Personal confession – this one really bugs me). You visit a website and the information that is on it is out of date. I mean who cares about your event you had last month or even worse last year? Keep it current – keep’em happy.
