Why-Your-Website-Waste-Time

Most of you know that having a website can be a great tool to market and promote your business products and/or services. You spent time, energy and money creating your perfect website. You might even write articles and publish them on your website regularly, and that’s a good thing.

But…

Do you have tunnel vision when it comes to your website?

Do you only think of it as a marketing and advertising tool? I am going to suggest another way to look at your website.

What about as an ‘Efficiency’ tool? Why not utilize your existing website to its full potential? Let’s say you sell a product that requires your staff person to give a 15 minute explanation on assembly or maintenance or operation to the customer. Further let’s say that you sell 4 of these widgets a week.

Some basic math:
15 minutes per product x 4 times per week = 1 hour spent per week
1 hour/week x 52 weeks a year = 52 hours per year

Say you pay your staff member $20 / hour.

52 hours x $20/hr = $ 1.040.00 per year

Now what if instead, you wrote an article that explained that process and posted it on your website and the your staff referred customers to your website?

Let’s look at the basic math again:

Time to write article and post …1 hour x $20/hour = $20 total cost.

So in this simplified example you have not only saved 51 hours a year you also saved money. I didn’t even get into additional benefits such as:

  • What if those extra hours were spend doing revenue generating activities?
  • You have now sent traffic to your website – where you can promote additional products, get them to sign up for your newsletter, etc.
  • Get them to leave feedback on that product – advice you could use to improve future offerings.

There are other possibilities as well – why not make a video tutorial and have it on your website?

What about the same questions you get asked over and over again by customers and vendors – why not include a form on your website for them to fill out or even a simple calculator program so customers can punch numbers into it and get their own results – instantly.

Now I am not suggesting that your answer to every customer is “go to our website”, but in the right circumstances it can save you (&/or) your staff hours or days of time, and couldn’t we all use a little more time?

Hopefully you have a great relationship with your web designer and can give them a quick call to discuss possible efficiency solutions to and how to best implement them on your website.

What about you? Did you do something on your website that saved you some time and energy? Please share your experience below.
