First things first.

What is Blogging ? Blogging is writing but instead of writing on paper its typing online. You can write about anything you want – personal as in a diary or journal or it can have a more commercial or business focus i.e. How to articles (example), Top 10 articles, Why do this or that… well you get the idea. Today I am going to talk about blogging from a business perspective.Benefits on Board

The Benefits of Business Blogging.

Business blogging can be an effective marketing tactic used to get your website higher online visibility.

1. Higher Search Engine Ranking.blogging4business

Search Engines like Google love new content. It shows that your website it changing, updating and active. Search engines like that and as a response they will tend to rank a website higher in its results the next time someone searches for your content or topic(s). I mean how many pages does your website have – likely not dozens and dozens. And how often can you update your “About Us” page. Enter..Blog page.

2. More Traffic to your website. hand

Who wants more visitors to their website ? Well you can pay for ads, buy mailing lists (yuck) or spend your money on other tactics to get more traffic. But when you write a blog article you are adding another page to your website and therefore Google sees another webpage to index. So now you have another opportunity to attract more ‘eyes’ to your website and more opportunities to convert eyes to actions.

3. Social Media

So you have written a perfect blog post. You carefully crafted your content and used spell check twice and now its online. So how are you going to let people know that it exists ? You know all those social media accounts you have – Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+. Well now you have content to post on those accounts and now people have that ability to like or tweet or otherwise share with their friends followers etc. Why not like my facebook page while you’re here ?

4. Helps establish your authorityExpertise Magnifying Glass

Good bloggers tend to blog about what their customers want to know and read about. Common questions or issues in a particular area. Instead of using the ole advertising tactic of SELL SELL SELL you have been helpful in providing your audience in some good advice. People will tend to look at you as more of a knowledgable and helpful person rather than just someone who wants to sell them.

5. Memory

Let’s say you wrote that killer blog post today and lets assume you promoted it through your social media connections. That post will probably net you an increase of visitors for the next day or two. However now that post (page) has been indexed by Google. Unlike an ad in todays newspaper that is thrown in the garbage tomorrow, your blog post can pop up endless times in the future when people are doing various searches. Unlike me, the internet has a memory that extends well into the future and has legs beyond that ‘one’ day you posted it. So leads could come in weeks or months down the road.

6. Gain Valuable Marketing Intelligence

You have decided to start blogging. After a few articles you are starting to get some comments and/or discussions. Fantastic ! You now have the perfect opportunity to discover what your customers ‘pain’ points are, what difficulties they are experiencing and their opinions on various subjects/issues. Even disagreements with your posts have the potential to be helpful. The point here is that you should be listening and reading very carefully to gain treasured insight into the mindset of your existing (or future) customers and who better to offer solutions (via new products or services) to answer these budding opportunities ? hmm..haaa..yep – YOU ! As you can see blogging has quite a few benefits for business. Pushing Benefits ButtonWhat do you think is the biggest benefit to blogging ? Please comment below.
